The Time Between Eclipses: Keeping it Simple at the Center of the Storm

“Keep your eyes on the road / stay awake, hold on tight; we’re picking up speed but we’re losing light.” – Bob Neuwirth (99 Monkeys)

We just had a supercharged Full Moon eclipse (on July 27) and now we’re headed for a New Moon eclipse (in Leo) on August 11. Meanwhile, we have five planets currently retrograde, including communication boss Mercury (through August 18) and aggressive Mars (through 27). Mars is also Out of Bounds; which means he’s off his meds and without his “handler.” Plus, he’s hanging out with that maverick, Uranus, which can be precarious – especially on August 1 when they face-off. This is an edgy, explosive, and an exciting time, but not an easy-breezy one.

“When fisherman can’t go out to sea, they mend their nets.”

You know the Mercury retro drill: it is not the ideal time to take big actions, launch new projects, or purchase Mercury ruled products such as cars or computers, but it’s great for buying used products or vintage items. Mercury can mess with travel, weather, and all types of communications. Since Mercury is visiting creative Leo, why not dust off that screenplay or novel you put aside or get back your painting or dance class?

This summer is a time to process and prepare. Use this in-between time to take care of old business; refine your projects and renew your vision. There’s a beautiful New Moon in Virgo on September 9 and the inner planets will be moving forward. That’s the time to take action and launch your brilliant new plans.

“If you’re invested in security and certainty you are on the wrong planet.” -Pema Chodron

In the meantime, slow down, keep it simple, stay flexible, and above all, be present. In the middle of chaos there is also calm; every crisis contains an opportunity. Make friends with uncertainty; embrace the unknown. Don’t wait for outer circumstances or events to change; alter how you see and experience the world. Release, purge and let go of what no longer serves you and connect with those things and people that make you happy.

The Sun is in confident and charismatic Leo (until August 22) and Leo is also about joy, pleasure, and playfulness. Celebrate, be grateful, and experience joy – every single day, no matter what is going on in your life, the world, or the White House! It doesn’t have to be extravagant or big: savoring the perfect cup of coffee, getting together with dear friends, walking barefoot in the sand, listening to your favorite music. As I like to say, “It’s the big things that get us through life but it’s the little ones that get us through the day.” Onward!
