Gemini New Moon – June 4-5, 2016

I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June. – L. M. Montgomery

June is such a gentle month; the world is garden-fresh and green, free from the dense heat of late summer or the constant rains of early spring. The air is soft and sweet, filled with the scent of lush peonies, delicate roses and wild strawberries and everywhere you look there is evidence of new life and renewed possibilities. Both early June and Gemini have a quality of crispness that invites the imagination and inspires creativity.

Every month we are blessed with a New Moon, another beginning, a fresh start. This month the Sun and Moon, as well as beautiful Venus, are in the sign of information, communication, language and learning. Gemini is ruled by that trickster Mercury, the Greek Hermes; the magician, inventor, patron of merchants, travelers and thieves, who guarded borders, crossroads, thresholds and the transactions that took place there. In mythology he was known as “the messenger of the gods,” the original Fed-Ex guy; the only god or mortal Pluto allowed in the underworld. He moved seamlessly between the worlds delivering messages from Pluto to the other gods on Mount Olympus as well as between mortals. He even guided souls in and out of the underworld.

Uncertainty is an uncomfortable position. But certainty is an absurd one. –Voltaire

Gemini and Mercury teach us to let go of limited thinking and prejudices and cultivate a childlike wonder, curiosity, playfulness, and never, ever stop learning. The dark side of Gemini is being frazzled, worried and running on empty. The mind is powerful; it can imprison us or set us free. This intelligent New Moon is not asking us to add more information or increase our data but to examine our thinking, question our values, and practice some mental feng shui.

We’ve all been dealing with the demanding t-square between Jupiter in Virgo, Saturn in Sagittarius, and Neptune in Pisces. Now the Sun, Moon and Venus have moved into the empty space of the t-square creating a compelling grand cross. The stakes are raised. We’ve come to a powerful threshold. In a sense we’ve outgrown ourselves. Saturn in Sagittarius tells us that the old reality will no longer work and implores us to release the belief systems that don’t support us. Neptune in caring Pisces reminds us that the old fantasies have to go as well. We need a new vision; one based on compassion and deep connection. Jupiter, the ancient ruler of Pisces and modern ruler of Sagittarius, adds a quality of honest optimism and a faith that is based on reality and not wishful thinking. Do we have the courage to move forward? Can we live our truth?

A Beautiful Mind

Mercury is traveling in sensual Taurus, the sign ruled by Venus. Venus, in mental Gemini, is in Mercury’s domain. These two planets are working together, weaving a new dream, composing a new story, one that is based on our deepest desires. There is also a lovely grand trine between Mercury in Taurus, Jupiter in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn. Magic is in the air. Messages, signs, and unexpected meetings appear out of the blue but have been secretly building behind the scenes. Stay open, stay teachable. Be true to yourself. Listen loudly. New Moons are wishing times; set your intensions and keep moving in the direction of your dreams.

Redeem

The time. Redeem

The unread vision in the higher dream….

– T. S. Eliot

May ends with fifteen hours of daylight, and here is June with a new moon at hand and the shortest nights of the year. June, with the summer solstice, the year’s midpoint, and proof that four seasons are a good arrangement. Proof too that the year is not dependent on the ticking of the clock. June is not timeless, but it is a span of existence that sets both its own tempo and boundaries. For those who will stop the microsecond chase long enough to look and feel, June provides a pause that helps restore perspective. –Hal Borland (New York Times, late 1960’s)
